This particular paper is an outline of a fitness plan I wrote for myself for a my Kines 84 class my sophomore year. Because I want to be a personal trainer and make a career out of it, this was great practice. It shows my understanding of general fitness principles. It also shows my ability to write a fitness plan specific to individual goals whether they be weight loss or specificity training.

For this particular part of my research on Freshmen who find it difficult to exercise, I sent out a survey to a target sample size of 30 PSU freshmen. The survey was there to try and help me understand if there were more general motivations and barriers or if the barriers and motivations were specific to the individual. I did find it to be more specific to the context of the environment and the type of person.

Fitness Writings

Below are a few writings for different classes I've taken where I had to write a paper(s) where I got to choose the topic, you can just click the picture. As a Kinesiology major, I chose health based topics.

Above is a speech that I wrote for my CAS 100A class. The topic of this speech was that unhealthy foods are more expensive than healthy foods. This particular speech outlined a policy to increase the price of unhealthy foods and lower the price of healhty foods. I talk about how subsidies for unhealthy foods should be used for the planting and cropping of healhty foods such as healthy vegestables and fruits. I also talk about the problem that arises from the increased prices of healhty foods.

I wanted to understand the different types of motivations and barriers to exercise that freshmen in college face. Freshmen year is the craziest year of many young adults' lives. It's difficult to manage time and include exercise in your everyday schedule. This is a Literature Review of Professional Articles that pertain to freshmen and exercise.

My experience as a Pennsylvania State Univeristy Personal Trainer..

I've worked as a staff member under the Strength and Conditioning program at Pennsylvania State University since August of 2013. We had to take a class (Kines 93) to learn basic strength principles, writing a balanced fitness plan specific to an individual's goals and implementing that plan. The personal training experience comes from the Get Fits we do. A Get Fit is when we write up a workout based on a member's goals. We take them through the workout once or twice to make sure they know how to safely use the equipment in the gym. The idea behind it is to make sure the members are not going to hurt themselves and that they're reaching their fitness goals in a safe way. I have learned more than I could imagine from my supervisors about the business aspect of the fitness industry and the science behind fitness. They've taught me a lot about myself. I've learned it's not always about the science when it comes to fitness, that's the easy part. There is more to just writing a successful workout to be considered a good trainer. There are so many aspects when trying to understand a person beyond fitness and motivating them to exercise. I will use the experience and knowledge that I've gained as a PSU fitness trainer everywhere I go. PSU has given me a strong foundation to build from.
